The character was originally named Zoe Stewart and then changed to Chloe Stewart. On the day the pilot episode was shot the name changed again to Miley Stewart. Cyrus stated that the producers named the character after her because "They just thought I was like the character." In Miley's book "Miles To Go", Miley speaks of the name change again saying that "It was just way too many names. So they dropped the one that was easiest to let go."
