Mono Lake Tufa State Reserve

The Mono Lake Tufa State Reserve was established at Mono Lake, in Mono County, California, to preserve the "tufa towers". The towers are made of calcium-carbonate spires and knobs formed by the interaction of freshwater springs and alkaline lake water. As of 2009, Mono Lake Tufa State Reserve is scheduled to be closed and placed under "caretaker" status.http://www.bodiefoundation.org/
