In this episode, Jack and his staff spend time strategizing for the campaign. Jack is scheduled to testify in a Congressional hearing, until he is reminded that he has agreed to speak before a protest by the Free South Africa movement.
So, Jack decides to abandon the Congressional hearing to attend the protest. Meanwhile, at the hearing, Taggerty introduces himself to General John Tanner, Jack's war veteran father. Taggerty poses as a close friend of Jack's and reveals that he is writing a book about him. Taggerty pumps John Tanner for information about his relationship with Jack and he learns that the Congressional hearings are the only time that Jack gets to see his father.
