An environmentalist is trying to stop a developer from building a strip mall. He is killed by the developer and his body is put in his Volkswagen Beetle. The developer loads the car into the back of a dump truck, and while he is driving down a stretch of empty highway, he raises up the bed and drops the car out. The car rolls over, causing other cars and 18-wheelers nearly hit it when they try to avoid it. His plan seemed to be perfect: The environmentalist died in a car accident. The only problem is that the developer unknowingly swapped his cell phone with the victim's.
Adrian Monk, Natalie Teeger, and Julie are in their Jeep and are stuck in the traffic jam. Monk tries to find out what is happening and realizes that the car was not really in an accident. It was murder. Monk's thoughts are regarded as incorrect and he is told to leave.
