The episode starts as a young woman is killed by an unseen man that is taking a shower in the same hotel room after she opens a bottle of wine. Monk bumps into Hal Tucker (Andy Richter) at the supermarket exit. After that, Monk is called to the scene and he's afraid of the toilet seat. Monk and Hal quickly hit it off, and when it becomes apparent to all around him that his new friend is having a detrimental effect on Monk's work, Monk refuses to acknowledge the fact, cherishing the experience of friendship.
