In 1973, Mt. Ararat High School opened its doors to serve the needs of the students of its four sending towns: Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, Harpswell, and Topsham, Maine. The name of the school was taken from the name of the hill that lies behind it, which has a fire tower and a cell tower at its crest. Additionally, the school address of 73 Eagles Way is named for its inaugural year.
As of 2007, Mt. Ararat High School has approximately 1,078 students and 126 faculty members. The principal is Dr. Craig King, and the two assistant principals are currently Josh Ottow and Don Gray.
Mt. Ararat High School's colors are royal blue, red, and white. Its mascot is the American Bald Eagle.
