The staff of Sacred Heart Hopsital is joined by a visiting doctor/surgeon, Dr. Kevin Casey (Michael J. Fox), who suffers from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. As a result of this, he has spent an exhorbitant amount of time memorizing medical texts, repetitively doing dexterity exercises and imagining any and all possible medical situations and emergencies, becoming an extremely skilled doctor in the process.
J.D., in the meantime, gets frustrated after Dr. Cox yet again asserts that he is not J.D.'s mentor. Desperate to find an alternative, more supportive mentor, J.D. begins work with Dr. Casey. Casey is everything that Cox is not--helpful, friendly and willing to spend time with him outside work. However, Casey dashes all J.D.'s hopes when he comments on how he finds doctors always in search of mentor figures to be "pathetic", not knowing that J.D....
