J.D. develops appendicitis, and has to spend Thanksgiving as a patient at Sacred Heart Hospital. During his treatment, he is cared for by Elliot and Turk. J.D. complains that Elliot's bedside manner is too cold, forcing her to re-examine how she treats patients. J.D. also has misgivings about being operated on by Turk, who J.D. still sees as an immature college student, and requests to be operated on by someone else. However, when J.D.'s condition worsens, Turk is the surgeon on-call, and so performs the operation. J.D. realises that Turk is indeed a skilled surgeon, and apologizes to him for doubting him.
Meanwhile, Dr. Cox and Dr. Kelso fight for the attention of Dr. Benson, a retired Chief of Medicine at Sacred Heart Hospital who has returned to the hospital as a patient. Kelso makes a decision that almost costs Dr. Benson his life....
