It has been two weeks since the death of Ben Sullivan, Dr. Cox's brother-in-law and closest friend, and Cox is still wallowing in self-pity. Aggravating the situation is the presence of two of Jordan's annoying and self-absorbed friends, who are visiting and staying with Cox and Jordan. J.D. tries to help his mentor, but Cox doesn't appreciate J.D.'s efforts and openly tells him to stop getting involved in his personal issues. Desperate to help Cox, J.D. asks Jordan's friends to leave. This only makes the already-tense situation worse, when Jordan finds out and gets angry.
