A Nazi Party is a party that adheres to the doctrines of National Socialism as developed by the National Socialist German Workers Party (Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, NSDAP) and its leader, Adolf Hitler, in the 1920s, and as implemented by his regime, Nazi Germany, between 1933 and 1945. While the NSDAP is by far the best-known and historically most important Nazi Party, during the 1930s parties in a number of countries adopted the name National Socialist and the national socialist ideology, and used variants of the NSDAP's symbols.
Since World War II only small groups on the fringes of politics in various countries have used the title National Socialist and openly proclaimed themselves as Nazi parties. All the symbols and slogans of the NSDAP remain illegal in Germany, but are sometimes used by informal groups of neo-Nazis and skinheads, as is also the case in other countries.
