This album was released in the same year as the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack, which Krauss appeared on, that had a large effect on bluegrass in the United States. New Favorite would go on to win the Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass album of the year and featured the single "The Lucky One" which won the Grammy for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.
A total of four singles were released from the "New Favorite" era. The single "Sitting In The Window Of My Room", was taken from the original motion picture soundtrack, "Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood". After the release of "Sitting In The Window Of My Room", Alison Krauss & Union Station released their final single, "New Favorite".
