Nigel Richard Shadbolt is a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Southampton in southern England. Nigel Shadbolt was born in London. He studied for an undergraduate degree in philosophy and psychology at Newcastle University. His PhD was from the Department of Artificial Intelligence at the University of Edinburgh. He moved to Nottingham University in 1983 and joined the Department of Psychology. In 2000, he moved to the University of Southampton. In 2007 he became Deputy Head of the School of Electronics and Computer Science. In 2006 he became a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering (FREng). He is a Fellow of the British Computer Society (FBCS) and was its President in its 50th jubilee year. In 2006, Nigel Shadbolt, Sir Tim Berners-Lee, Professor Wendy Hall and Daniel Weitzner, founded the Web Science Research Initiative, to promote the discipline of Web Science and foster research collaboration between the University of Southampton and MIT. less
