The school property is located between the Edens Expressway on its west, and the Westfield Old Orchard Shopping Mall across the street to the east.
The school was used for some scenes in the 1984 movie Sixteen Candles (along with Niles East High School).
The school appeared on WGN Channel 9 news in 2004 when some senior students listed this school on eBay as a prank. The prank was also reported on the front page of the June 9, 2004 issue of the Chicago Tribune.
Niles North has hosted the Suburban Regional History Fair for seven years.
