Ninian Edwards

Ninian Edwards (March 17, 1775 – July 20, 1833) was a U.S. political figure. Born in 1775 in Montgomery County, Maryland, Edwards served as the only governor of Illinois Territory between 1809 and 1818 and again as governor of Illinois (as a state) from 1826 until 1830. He served as a U.S. Senator from Illinois from 1818 to 1824. Upon his death from cholera in 1833 in Belleville, Illinois, Edwards was interred in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
