The season premiere picks up roughly four months after season two with the Cylon occupation of New Caprica. The remaining ships of the fleet have successfully escaped but are cut off from the nearly forty thousand humans on New Caprica. Colonel Tigh has been captured by the Cylons, and Samuel Anders and Chief Petty Officer Tyrol attempt to lead a resistance against the Cylons.
Colonel Tigh has been held captive in the Cylon detention facility for an unspecified, but extended, period of time. He is released to the custody of Ellen Tigh after her sexual liaison with Cylon Brother Cavil earns her husband's freedom. During his incarceration, the Cylons rip out Tigh's right eye.
