Higgins actually started writing tracks for her second album as soon as she had finished recording The Sound of White. She stated that “I started quite early because I knew there would be a lot of pressure for the second album and I didn’t want to write songs under anyone’s stopwatch. It hasn’t been too bad.” Despite primarily being a pianist, the guitar was the foundation for most of the songs on the album. Higgins admitted that it was easier to write songs on guitar while on tour as opposed to having to "plug your keyboard in, plug it in, set it all up and get headphones”.
