Orchid were an early screamo band from Amherst, Massachusetts. Considered by many to be one of the pioneers of the screamo sound, Orchid combined a postmodern aesthetic with hardcore punk, releasing several now-hard-to-find EPs and splits as well as three full-length records. Orchid's influences are assumed to be Canadian hardcore band Union of Uranus and One Eyed God Prophecy, but band members more often cite the German bands Systral and Carol.

Posthumously, a CD compiling all of their singles and split releases (Totality on Clean Plate Records) was released, which comprised all of the out of press and hard to find material previously only available on vinyl.
The band was formed while Jayson Green, Will Killingsworth, and Brad Wallace were studying at Hampshire College, and Jeff Salane was attending U. Mass in Amherst, Massachusetts in early 1998.
