As an undergraduate, he attended Morehouse College, initially majoring in political science and film with the intent of becoming a filmmaker. He was a runner and named by the NCAA as an All-American Track and Field athlete. After hearing his call to the ministry during track practice, he changed majors to religion and philosophy and graduated with honors in 1992.
