The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), named after talk-show presenter Oprah Winfrey, is an American specialty channel produced by Harpo Productions and Discovery Communications. It debuted on January 1, 2011 in approximately 80 million homes, replacing the former Discovery Health Channel.
OWN programming includes a mix of original programs, strips, specials, original documentaries and acquired movies. OWN transmits broadcasts in both standard-definition resolution (480i) and high-definition resolution (1080i). AT&T;, Dish Network, Cablevision and Bright House currently carry the channel in high definition in all their markets, with Charter Communications, Cox, and Time Warner Cable carrying the HD feed of the channel only in some of their markets.
Oprah Winfrey announced her syndicated talk show would end on May 25, 2011, and that it would not continue on OWN thereafter. However, she will host a new prime-time show on the channel called Oprah's Next Chapter two or three times a week....
