When she goes to visit Lane and finds her working on a science project with Dean, she runs away, leading to an argument between her and Lane. At school, Max expresses concern for Rory, and lets slip the fact that he and Lorelai have been talking for several weeks and are planning to go on a date. Rory confronts Lorelai about her and Max, and they end up fighting. Rory tells Lorelai that she will meet her at home, but when Lorelai returns home Rory is nowhere to be found.
