"Paper Hearts" is the tenth episode aired in the fourth season of the television series The X-Files. Agent Mulder (David Duchovny) investigates a child killer whom he helped put away who claims to have murdered his sister Samantha.
Mulder dreams of a red light that leads him to the corpse of a young girl buried in a park. When Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) awakens he heads to the park and finds the girl's skeleton. The girl was murdered by John Lee Roche, a serial killer who murdered 13 girls and cut a heart out of the clothes of each of them. Mulder explains to partner Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) how in 1990 he helped catch Roche by deducting that he was a vacuum cleaner salesman who traveled along the East Coast where the girls bodies were found. The cloth hearts were never found, although he confessed to all of the murders.
By performing an autopsy on the girl's body Scully finds that the girl died in 1975, meaning Roche started his murders before the FBI thought he did. The...
