Due to the heated management disputes at Morgan Stanley star bankers Joseph Perella (Vice-Chairman) and Tarek Abdel-Meguid (Head of Investment Banking) abruptly left the firm in November 2005. Perella and Abdel-Meguid then decided to create a new boutique advisory firm and quickly began to raid other top Wall Street banks for talent. In January 2006 the unnamed firm announced it would be bringing aboard Peter Weinberg, CEO of Goldman Sachs International (the bank's European arm).
