Draper was born to Phyllis, a Peace Corps administrator, and William Henry Draper III, venture capitalist and civic leader of the United Nations Development Programme. Her brother is venture capitalist Tim Draper and her niece is actress Jesse Draper. In 1989, Draper appeared on The Arsenio Hall Show, where she met jazz pianist and composer Michael Wolff where he served as the band-leader. They married, and have two children—Nat and Alex.
