Alexander's paternal grandparents were Peter II of Yugoslavia and Alexandra of Greece, daughter of Alexander I of Greece and Aspasia Manos, who trace their patrilineal from George I of Greece to the Komnenos and their matrilineal from Olga Konstantinovna of Russia to the Romanovs. His maternal grandparents are Prince Pedro Gastão of Orléans-Braganza and Princess Maria de la Esperanza of Bourbon-Two Sicilies.
