On April 5, 2006, DreamWorks Animation SKG announced plans for a film adaptation of the book, after acquiring the rights to develop and produce it. Kevin Messick (from a lot like love), who developed the story, will serve as its executive producer; Jim Hecht, co-writer of Ice Age: The Meltdown, will share a story credit with Messick, and will write the screenplay for the motion picture. Both of them pitched the project to DreamWorks co-founder, Jeffrey Katzenberg.
DWA¬タルs head of development, Kristine Belson, shepherded the deal and will oversee the project.
