After years of hinting at "having a science-fiction idea in me," on August 13, 2003, Smith confirmed that his sci-fi idea had a name and a premise. He first described the film as "my stab at a comicbook/sci-fi movie. It's in the vein of Flash Gordon, something I've noodled with a couple of years. Now I feel we are mature enough filmmakers to tackle it."
Since then, Smith hasn't stated much about the project, as he has been hard at work with Clerks II. Some ideas he has kicked around involved using Robert Rodriguez's Troublemaker Studios lot in Austin, Texas to shoot the film and confirmation that he will have a role for his longtime co-star/friend Jason Mewes in Ranger Danger .
