RealD was founded in 2003 by Michael V. Lewis and Joshua Greer. In 2005 RealD purchased Stereographics, Inc, incorporating Stereographics technology and products such as CrystalEyes. RealD acquired optical components technology company ColorLink in 2007, a leading provider of RPTV, polarizing film and optical technologies including technologies for the US Military. RealD restricts supply of their 3D technologies to customers that are very well-heeled, tying their patents to products that they alone manufacture.
