Warner Bros. attempted to pursue several projects to resurrect the series, but did not succeed in doing so until establishing Christopher Nolan to direct Batman Begins (2005), which rebooted the film series' continuity. Nolan is currently directing The Dark Knight, which continues the story restarted by Batman Begins.
