According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 32.1 square miles (83.0 km²), of which, 31.5 square miles (81.6 km²) of it is land and 0.6 square miles (1.5 km²) of it (1.75%) is water. Redding is rural compared to the towns along the Golden Coast. Although Redding boasts the wealth that is identified with Fairfield County, it is a more secluded option for home ownership. As such, real estate prices have remained at a premium for the last couple years. It borders the towns of Bethel, Danbury, Easton, Newtown, Ridgefield, Wilton and Weston.
Georgetown is partly in Redding. West Redding (including Lonetown, Sanfordtown, and Topstone), Redding Center, and Redding Ridge are three other parts of town.
