Richard John Thompson (born 3 April 1949 in Notting Hill, West London) is a British songwriter, guitar player and recording and performing musician. Thompson is especially well regarded as a guitar player. In 1991 he was awarded the Orville H. Gibson award for best acoustic guitar player.
