Richard Williams (born 1942) is an American tennis coach. Richard Williams met his now ex-wife, Oracene in 1979. They married and lived for a time in Lansing, Michigan. Oracene had three daughters from a previous marriage and two daughters (Venus and Serena) with Richard. The couple eventually moved west, settling in the Los Angeles Compton area. '
Wanting a better future for his five daughters, and wanting at least one of them to succeed in sports, he began to take them to the Compton public tennis courts, soon after getting them into California tennis tournaments. In 1995, Richard pulled his daughters out of Macci's academy, and from then on took over all coaching at their home.
