"Rip Van Kitty" is an episode of Garfield and Friends. It originally aired on September 16, 1989. Jon takes Garfield, Odie and Nermal to a picnic by the lake. Garfield tries to take a nap but is constantly interrupted by Nermal and then Odie, and he does mean Punishment to each of them to get them to leave him alone. In Garfield’s dream, it is twenty years later, everything has a utopian Jetsons-esque look, and Garfield, Jon and Odie all have long white beards. When Jon serves lunch, it turns out to be merely tablets, and Jon explains that all food had been capsulized for nutritional value. Meanwhile, Garfield sees a newscast detailing that aliens are invading. The aliens sleep twenty-three hours per day, and during the remaining hour, they consume an entire planet’s food supply.
