Robbie the Reindeer in Hooves of Fire is a 1999 animated film directed by Richard Goleszowski and produced by BBC Bristol and Comic Relief. The film is the first of a series of productions featuring Robbie the Reindeer, a reindeer moulded on Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. It is loosely based on stories about Rudolph.
The film premiered in the UK on Christmas Day 1999 (December 25) and won a number of awards, including a BAFTA television award for Best Entertainment Programme in 2000 and Best TV Special, Children's Choice and Best Scenario at the 2000 British Animation Awards.
Following on from its success in the UK, the BBC sold the rights for the film to American network channel CBC. The American version was recast with American entertainers, including Brad Garrett, Britney Spears and Ben Stiller, although British actor Hugh Grant did lend his voice to the character of Blitzen.
