Abboud was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and moved with his family to Barrington Hills when he was four. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nuclear Engineering from Purdue University. He was accepted into the United States Navy Submarine Nuclear Weapons program, but chose to support energy/advanced nuclear reactor development at Argonne National Laboratory.
