Born in Dorchester, Boston, Massachusetts, Wahlberg is one of nine children, with siblings Arthur, Jim, Paul, Mark, Tracey, Michelle, Debbie, and Donnie Wahlberg. He also has three half siblings from his father's first marriage: Donna, Scott and Buddy. His mother, Alma Elaine (née McPeck), was a bank clerk and nurse's aid, and his father, Donald Edmund Wahlberg, Sr was a teamster who worked as a delivery driver; the two divorced in 1982. His paternal grandfather was of Swedish descent, while his other ancestry includes Irish and French Canadian. Works at NSTAR currently.
His father, a US Army veteran of the Korean War, died on February 14, 2008.
