She began her TV career later in life, after years in such endeavors as Rolling Stone magazine journalist, waitress, magazine editor, ditch digger, computer programmer, elevator operator in a meat-packing plant, and Specialist 4th Class, US Army. In 1968, she worked as Marvel Comics' secretary-receptionist, and "Gal Friday" for editor-in-chief Stan Lee.
Green has written and produced for such series as Northern Exposure, A Year in the Life and Almost Grown, and wrote the Showtime TV movie Critical Choices.
