Williams was born October 9, 1953(1953-10-09), grew up in San Jose and Fremont, California, graduated from Washington High School in Fremont, and then attended Santa Rosa Junior College.
Williams is an author, college instructor, lecturer, and leads The Understanders, a Shakespeare discussion and reading group. She has been a leader in New Mexico computer-related organizations and The Mary Sidney Society.
She is married to John Tollett and has three children.
