Ruben Östlund

Ruben Östlund (born 13 April 1974) is a Swedish film director. Originally a director of skiing film, he has directed three feature-length fiction films: The Guitar Mongoloid from 2004, Involuntary from 2008 and Play, released in 2011. Ruben Östlund started as a director of skiing films in the 1990s, and eventually went on to study at the film school in Gothenburg, from which he graduated in 2001. He was accepted to the school based on his skiing films. Together with film producer Erik Hemmendorff he is the co-founder of the production company Plattform Produktion, which produces his films. Östlund's short film Incident by a Bank won the Golden Bear for Best Short Film at the 60th Berlin International Film Festival.
