Ruth Jones (born January 1967, in Bridgend) is a Welsh actress and writer, best known for co-scripting and starring in the multi-award winning hit TV comedy Gavin and Stacey. She is also known for her comedy performances in Little Britain, Saxondale with Steve Coogan and cult hit Nighty Night, and for dramatic roles in Torchwood and Little Dorrit. Jones grew up in Porthcawl, South Wales. After attending Porthcawl Comprehensive School, she obtained a degree in drama and theatre studies from the University of Warwick, then attended the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in Cardiff. Jones first worked in TV and radio comedy for BBC Wales in 1991, both writing and performing in several radio series and TV comedy programmes. Theatre with the RSC and The National Theatre was followed by her performance in the hit British movie East Is East.
