This film was a blockbuster of the year and was a musical hit too. This film was later remade into Telugu as Lakshmi Narasimha, even though the original was dubbed into Telugu as Saamy IPS. Saamy along with Kaakka Kaakka started a new genre of police and thief films in Tamil like Bheeshmar, Gambeeram, Anjaneya and many others. But none of them could repeat the success of Saamy and Kaakka Kaakka. Kota Srinivasa Rao made his debut in Tamil as a villain in this film.
