Construction began in 1998 on a new terminal with funds from the Asian Development Bank and Government of Indonesia. It cost US$ 7,6 million to develop the terminal's air side section and US$ 13 million to build its land side section. In 2001, the new terminal opened featuring 21 check-in counters, 5 gates, 4 airbridges, 2 baggage claim belts and an outdoor waving gallery on top of the 3-story terminal building.
