Born in Scottsdale, Arizona, Hanratty is the youngest in a family of five girls, including an older sister named Danielle who is also an actress. In 1997, she moved to Los Angeles and, in 2001, her mother met with an agent leading to bookings for jobs including commercials for Oil of Olay. She also did two commercials for pringles which gave her the nickname the Pringles Girl. Sammi and her Family are Christians, Sammi says "I thank God for my blessings every day."
