The San Francisco Unified School District is the only public school district in San Francisco, California. It is managed by the San Francisco Board of Education.
The district was California's first public school district when it was established in 1851. It currently serves over 56,000 students in more than 160 institutions. It is the only public school district within the City and County of San Francisco.
