Sanjuro (椿三十郎, Tsubaki Sanjūrō) is a 1962 black and white Japanese samurai film directed by Akira Kurosawa and starring Toshirō Mifune. Largely based on Shūgorō Yamamoto's short story Peaceful Days (日日平安 Nichinichi hei-an), the story begins with nine young samurai, who are worried about corruption in the leadership of their clan. Although they know of two elders who are "bad," the youths misjudge who the real mastermind behind these two is, and ask that wrong one for help. As the nine meet secretly at a temple and discuss their problem, a ronin (Mifune) suddenly appears from another room. The ronin explains the stupidity and naiveté of their conclusions and decides to help them.
