The Sarah Lawrence College Art of Teaching Program is a graduate division of Sarah Lawrence College that offers training in education in both degree-track and continuing education formats.
One component of the program is the Empowering Teachers Program, which was established in 1989 as a forum for the support of teachers and educational administrators, and has since expanded into a resource and network for more than 250 beginning and experienced professionals from 25 school districts in Westchester County and adjacent areas of New York, Connecticut and New Jersey.
Membership involves a two-year commitment that comprises participation in weeklong annual institutes during the summer and monthly after-school follow-up sessions during the subsequent academic years. Participants meet in small groups to examine the challenges facing children, families and schools in today's society, while exploring opportunities for meaningful classroom practices.
