Wallace began publishing fiction in 1997 when he started Cosmos Books, a company launched with Philip Harbottle. Fantasy Annual, an anthology of British authors including E.C. Tubb, John Russell Fearn, Sydney Bounds, and more, was their first title, followed subsequently by many more. The development of Wallace's publishing and editing career then got very complicated: in 1999 the "Cosmos Books" name was licensed out to Wildside Press, at which point output increased dramatically, expanding with American and Australian authors. Wallace also became a freelance editor for Wildside Press, working from Ohio. Soon after, in mid 2001, Wallace then stepped in to assist an ailing publishing company, Imaginary Worlds, which despite all efforts went under, but Wallace then launched Prime Books to publish a few of the orphaned books, including the award-winning City of Saints and Madmen, by Jeff VanderMeer...
