Walker graduated from Westbury High School in Houston in 1983; received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physics from Rice University in Houston in 1987; received a Masters of Science and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Space Physics from Rice University in 1992 and 1993 respectively.
