Sharon Creech (born July 29, 1945) is an American novelist of children's fiction. Her novel Walk Two Moons received the 1995 Newbery Medal; The Wanderer was a 2001 Newbery Honor book and Ruby Holler received the 2002 Carnegie Medal. In 2007, Heartbeat was a finalist in the Junior Division (4th to 6th grades) of the Young Reader's Choice Awards, sponsored by the Pacific Northwest Library Association.

Creech was born July 29, 1945, in South Euclid, Ohio. She has three brothers, Dennis, Doug, and Tom, and one sister, Sandy, upon whom she based the characters in Absolutely Normal Chaos and Ruby Holler. Her brother Tom currently resides in Kent, Ohio, with his wife, Marty, and their three children, Sandra, Mary, and Annie. Annie was the basis of a character in Heartbeat. Every year, Creech's family visited Quincy, Kentucky, the inspiration for the town of Bybanks, which appeared in Chasing Redbird, Bloomability, Walk Two Moons, and (by reference) The Wanderer.
