Shirley Valerie Horn (May 1, 1934 in Washington, D.C. – October 20, 2005) was an American jazz singer and pianist. Shirley Horn was a master pianist and vocalist who embarked on a career in jazz, despite her intention to become a classical musician--racism being the deciding factor.
