Shiv Sena (Devanāgarī: शिव सेना Śīv Senā, meaning Army of Shiva, referring to Shivaji, not the Hindu deity Shiva) is a political party in India founded on June 19, 1966 by Bal Thackeray, who is currently the leader of the party. The party emerged out of a movement in Bombay, favouring increased influence of Marathi in Maharashtra.
